Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore Triathlon
Attended the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Triathlon event. Had to reach by 5AM. That Saturday, i slept at 11.30PM, hoping to wake up by around 3.30AM. I already had so little hours of sleep, and yet i still had problems sleeping! I think i slept only for 30mins in all. Keep turning and tossing again.
Woke up at 3.30AM, met with Weili and Kokboon at about 4.30AM and cabbed down to ECP. Got briefed about our first jobs, and started work. We had to use some ink and stamp to label the participants' numbers on their arms. It was really hilarious when we stamped on the wrong sides of the numbers on the participants, especially the number "4"! Super confusing! To speed up the process, I prepared the inked stamps of the numbers and Kokboon helped to stamp. Then we switched roles. Of course, we weren't the only booth. There were at least 7-8 booths, labelling over thousands of people. We spent almost an hour finishing the job! Just before finishing stamping, Tricia and Caleen just managed to arrive!!!
Then we rested, before knowing our next job. We're in charge of the fruits section. On that day, we're literally fruits peddlers. We could really open a fruits stall! Weili and Kokboon was in charge of cutting up really big and heavy watermelons. Caleen and me had to cut oranges. Tricia acted like the one serving the fruits. I don't usually hold a knife, much less know how to use one, so i have to thank Caleen for teaching me the right way of cutting up oranges! Now i'm a pro in cutting up oranges!
Then, the first runner from Australia, came back in about 3 hours 55 mins, after 70.3 MILES! Thumbs up man! Then LOADS of cameras and videocams were stationed right infront of the finishing line. LOL.
Swim – 1.9KM
Bike – 90.1KM
Run - 21.1KM
Initially, we thought our "fruits stall" would be a flop, but we were sooooo damn wrong! The rate the fruits the participants take, is so much faster than the rate we cut! The fruits are really refreshing and sweet for the participants, on such a hot day. We had to continue this for many many hours, WITHOUT MUCH REST! The watermelons are really exaggerating, Weili and Kokboon took at least 5 minutes to cut up 1 watermelon, but within seconds, the served ones are all gone! Poor them! Oranges are still manageable. I tried to help them, but clumsily got sliced by the knife! The rather deep wound had blood gushing nonstop, so bo bian.
All of us was really very tired from the aching limbs. There was once when the tired Caleen sat down, and someone from some media was filming our cutting process, she immediately stood up, whispered to me, "Wah, must show that I'm doing something." I almost LOL! But of course, i tried acting pro in cutting those oranges too! :D
Towards the end, the worse thing about the fruits, esp. the watermelons, is that there are still many many many baskets left, about 18 baskets with 3-4 melons each in it. Until one point, all of us are really very tired, we told the participants that there are no more fruits already. Haha! The place was really uber uber dirty with watermelon and orange juices! Then we collected our pay and had our FREE KFC meal as sponsored.
And with Tricia guiding us home, you could expect us being lost in the vicinity. Haha. But seriously, I really have to apologize to them for asking them to volunteer in this event lah. I'm quite guility about this. What i told them, wasn't what was expected, like the jobscope and rewards. Sorry, guys. Luckily i didn't ask any other people to join. There's actually still a Standard Chartered one. :D
As koped from Boon's blog. :)
I had fun (somehow) that day, hoped you guys did too! Now my hands are still painful and aching!
